DOWNTOWN AKRON — Four residents of Norton’s Ward 1 turned in petitions by the Feb. 13 deadline to run for a vacant seat on City Council, according to the Summit County Board of Elections (BOE).

The four — Jeromy Clark, Jack Gainer, Joe Kazy and David Walton — are seeking to fill the unexpired term that ends Dec. 31. It became vacant due to the Jan. 20 resignation of Rick Rodgers.

According to the BOE, the petitions must be certified before the candidates will be put on the ballot for the election, to take place May 2. The petitions are expected to be certified Feb. 22, according to City of Norton officials.
