GRANGER — Highland High School students observed a mock car crash April 13 and got to witness the serious outcomes that could result from drinking and driving.

The Prom Promise event was coordinated by the Granger, Sharon and Hinckley fire departments and hosted by the Highland Local Schools’ Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Role Models. It began with an assembly for the junior and senior classes before moving outside the school for the mock scene.

During the event, Sgt. Scott Schmoll, of the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, pictured at top, gave a detailed account of what would happen during an actual drunken driving crash situation. The driver of the vehicle, portrayed by an actor, is shown at right bottom as he is given a sobriety test by an officer at the scene.

Granger and Sharon townships’ police and fire departments are shown below as they respond to the mock crash. The aftermath of the crash is shown at right top.
