BATH — The Bath Park Board, with the support of the Summit Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), will host the Third Annual Rain Barrel Workshop April 2.

The workshop will take place at the Bath Nature Preserve’s Regal Beagle shelter at The University of Akron (UA) Field Station. It will be led by Jeff Taiclet and feature Taiclet’s rain barrels. Taiclet is shown at right top presenting at a previous workshop.

There will be two sessions, with the first beginning at 11 a.m. and the second at 1 p.m. Since this is a hands-on workshop, each session is limited to 35 people. Shown at right top, Tina Taiclet, Jeff’s wife, helps participants get started at a previous workshop.

The registration form will be posted at www.bathtownship.org or can be picked up at the township administration offices during business hours. Mail a completed registration form with payment to Bath Township, P.O. Box 1188, Bath, OH 44210-1188, Attn: Rain Barrel Workshop. Make checks payable to Jeff Taiclet. The registration deadline is March 28.

One rain barrel kit is $70 and includes one 55-gallon food-grade/recycled drum, overflow hose and all fittings. An additional linking barrel is available for $30. Barrels will be delivered to the field station for the workshop; however, participants are responsible to transport their completed barrels home.

According to SWCD officials, rain barrels conserve water, provide mineral-rich water for plants, improve ground water quality and help prevent erosion and flooding.
